While we are studying "The Bastard of Istanbul," each student is required to respond a prompt given in class each day, using relevant quotations. In addition, each student should take notes on the discussion that ensues. The length of your BOI RL, which includes your response to the prompt and discussion notes, is determined by your curriculum level: C2: 1 page, C1: 1 page, H: 2 pages. If you are absent from class, you are responsible for writing a response to the prompt that meets the length requirement. Entries will be collected randomly or without notice, so please have all of them with you at all times.
BOI RL 1: What are your first thoughts on Zeliha, her situation, and her relationship with her family or her city? (gather 1-3 quotes as support)
BOI RL 2: What do you find sympathetic about Rose? Mustafa? (1 bquote for each)
BOI RL 3: Compare Grandma Shushan to your grandmother(s)? Or compare the Tchachmatkchian family to yours.

BOI RL 7: In a small group, come up with a question that you can all write about OR use the Study Guide to discuss the chapter while taking notes. (1-2 quotations)
BOI RL 8: Elif Shafak has said that this novel is about "the tension between the need to examine the past and the desire to erase it." Which characters in Ch. 8 show this tension? (2 quotations)
